Oh Stuff it, Weight Watchers
May 24th, 2005
I’m on Weight Watchers. Yeah, I know. I’m not enormous, but I did reach an all-time high in January and frightened myself. And while it wasn’t out of control yet, I realized at the rate I was gaining, I was on a steady climb to be somewhere in the range of 200+ lbs on my 5′ 7” frame by the time I was 35 (I’m 29 now, I know, but you get what I mean – the weight creep was CREEPING ME OUT). Not good.
Anyway, it’s been great, actually. I’m surprised at how little I’ve felt deprived and how much…healthier, if I may be so cliche, I feel. It’s really done wonders for my sleep habits, overall health and even my skin. Great. Whoo hoo.
However, when I went to log my weight this week, this is what I got:
WELL DONE! You’ve recorded a loss this week. That’s great news! However, we notice that you’ve lost more than an average of 2 pounds per week over three or more weeks. This rate is too rapid — it may be unsafe or unhealthy. While we’re proud of your achievements and pleased you’re making changes in your life, we need you to concentrate on one more thing: You should slow the pace of your weight loss to no more than 2 pounds per week.
Seriously, WW, I love you, but you can shove it up your ass. First off, you didn’t warn me about the dangers of rapid WEIGHT GAIN when I packed on five pounds in four days while I was in California (did you know that they have REAL MEXICAN FOOD in California? My ass does now, thank you). Secondly, I had a stomach virus, and for the last 48 hours, I’ve either puked up everything of substance, or managed to keep down a simple meal of (yummy!) saltines and ginger ale. I know it’s not healthy.
Stuff it, like I said.

Sounds like you’ve been having a sucky time… I can’t remember the last time I was so sick I threw up. (Okay, I’ve been stressed out and thrown up, but that is totally different.) Yeesh, you have my sympathy. I hate being sick, too.

{{{Gah!}}} You’re right behind Mom in the Stuff It line. They actually rejected her because she wasn’t overweight ENOUGH. She only wanted to lose 20 pounds, and yes, I agreed that she was getting on the chunky side. (You know I’m tend to see Stick Insect Syndrome even when it isn’t there.) I’ve never been on any of those commercial plans, but I’d choose Jenny Craig just because Kirstie Allie cracks me up :>
So sorry you’ve been sick

I’m with you J,
I gain some weight and they give me helpful tips but if I loose more than two pounds than I should be ashamed of myself!
Glad I don’t wear the scarlet WW alone!

I am also on WW, but go in for the public humiliation weigh in. It’s the only way it works for me! So far I’ve been on it for 5 weeks and have lost more than 2 lbs. a week, but no one has yelled yet…see? another reason to move to Utah!

I’m on WW too (shhhh) and have been unceremoniously slapped on the back of the hands (metaphorically speaking) more than once for my ‘dangerous rate of weight loss’. It hurts, doesn’t it? You THOUGHT you were doing just what the teacher said you should for homework, only to find the assignment changed overnight unbeknownst to you.
Or could this be some very clever psychologist/perverse incentive thing? BAAAAAAAAAAD you for losing too much weight! Your response to which is: take a hike! I’m a gonna lose me 7lbs next week, b*tch!
Just a thought…

Dude. As if people who are trying to lose weight need ANOTHER complex. I congratulate you, and can relate to the feeling that the weight just doesn’t feel right, or feels creepy. Hope you feel better!

What a coincidence. I too have just had the stomach flu, which finally obliterated the padding I accumulated while in California and Mexico for my wedding and honeymoon. Mmm, real Mexican food. And there really is nothing like contracting a disease if you feel like you need to start wasting away.

Feel better, dear!
Not that is the type of take charge woman speaking her mind mentality I love.

Well, I do hope you feel better soon. But really! Has WW not gotten the memo? Positive reinforcement, dudes… it’s not like you lost 12 pounds this week and is on a meth binge. It’s so wrong. *sigh*
I must do something about my weight. soon. GAH
