Who’s That Guy?
August 12th, 2007
For the first time in years, I’ve been plagued by Sunday Night Syndrome. You know that terrifying feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach you had when you were a kid and you had a chemistry test the next day? A chemistry test you knew you were doomed to fail? That’s kind of how I feel right now. Not doomed to fail, per se, but doomed to a day of anxiety that I’m going to fail if I don’t pay rapt attention to every single teeny thing that happens, and that definitely includes an ant crawling across my desk, because it could change the chemical make up of the room, and THAT could change the course of the entire day and then we would be doomed to fail! DOOMED! TO! FAIL!
Work is awesome right now, is what I’m saying. Extra challenges! Extra responsibility! Extra anxiety! No sleep! Woo!
That being said, we had a deliciously lazy weekend that involved lots of wandering around aimlessly, meals out, long runs and laundry. It was precisely what we needed, laundry and all, and it felt so good that I’m more heartbroken than usual to see it all end, but luckily, there are brownies to see us through the hard times, even if they do come in a box. The thing is, I’ve made brownies from scratch, and I’ve made them from a box, and when it comes to plain chocolate brownies, I can honestly say I prefer them from a box. Like, by quite a bit, unless they’re made with something fancy, like cream cheese or mint or German chocolate frosting.
Mmmm … German chocolate frosting …
One of the things that made this weekend so beautifully spectacular was the fact that Grease 2 was on while I ran on the treadmill this afternoon, and I don’t care who mocks me: Grease 2 is a delightful blast. Balmudo! Rock-a-Hula Luau! Reproduction! I’ve mentioned this before, but I hadn’t seen it in ages and ages, and it was just as deliciously campy as it’s always been, but most importantly, through the magic of Google and IMDB, I learned that Balmudo, also known as Craterface, died in 1994. 1994! He’s been dead for years! I don’t know why this makes me immeasurably sad, but it does. I always thought he was still out there somewhere, leading the Scorpions to victory until Michael Carrington arrived menacingly, rising from the orange cones to ride circles around them all.
Also random aside: Did anyone else watch Dance Fever growing up? Does anyone else remember when Adrien Zmed, also known as Johnny Nogerelli, hosted it? Because oh my God, the hair. The satin shirts. ADRIEN ZMED.
And look, I’m going to run off and enjoy the last fading bits of my delicious weekend, including a beer and a brownie (though not at the same time), but first, a product recommendation:
I cannot recommend Origins Spring Fever enough. Lawyerish was kind enough to bring me some of the body souffle, at the recommendation of Metalia, who I’ve stolen a lot of products from, including Softsoap’s Pomegranate Mango body wash (oh my gawd YUM!). And boy howdy, she was right! So very right! It’s delicious, and very moisturizing and I’ve been wearing it almost exclusively since she gave it to me, and it’s taking every ounce of restraint in me not to smear it all over my body at every possible opportunity. In fact, it’s replaced my previous favorite body cream, People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo, which is beautiful and wonderful and eye-pokingly expensive, though it lasts a really long time.
But the Origins is even more delightful! And much prettier! And, praise the lord, much cheaper! It’s light, beautifully refreshing and so creamy and cozy without overpowering. I’ve seriously considering drinking it, but it’s just … well, that would be gross. But that means you should go get some.
*Grease 2 ensemble. I’m seriously considering buying the soundtrack, because how happy is it? How campy and joyful! DELIGHT! DELIGHT IN THE CAMPINESS.

LOVE Grease 2. Watched it last week as a matter of fact. This was the beginning of my girl-crush on Michelle Pfeiffer. I’m fairly certain I own the soundtrack too.

It’s tough to beat brownies from a box. Ancient Scottish recipe, huh?

I LOVE GREASE 2. I saw that first (b4 the original grease) and I always thought two was better. But then again we were in third grade when we were obsessed with grease 2. I still love it. We were trying to get pink satin jackets but never quite got there. I got a cotton one that I was still proud of at 8. I always wanted to be Stephanie wearing tight hot pants like in Cool RIder. My stepsister always wanted to be Paulette and she really is kinda slutty now. I love Paulette’s gold hot pants in the bowling scene!
let’s do it for our country! the red white and the blue!

Oh, the Sunday feeling. I HATE IT. For me, it doesn’t come until the school year starts, which would be tomorrow. UGH.

I recently saw “Inside the Actors Studio” with Michelle Pfeiffer, and I absolutely loved her reaction when she was told the Grease 2 choreographer was in the studio audience. So sweet, and so genuinely touching.
As for James Lipton, well…can you say pretentious, pompous prick?
I’ve always loved Grease 2 better than the original, an admission that has made me the butt of many jokes throughout the years.

Oh! Grease 2! I love it, love it, love it!

Did I just watch part of Grease 2 today? Yes, and I’m not ashamed in the least. Go buy the soundtrack; I fully support that decision.
Also, I’ve been meaning to email you to tell you how very happy I am that you like Spring Fever body souffle. YAY! I must say, I can’t blame you for being tempted to drink it; it smells heavenly.

Huge (pronouncing the H there, by the way) fan of Grease, but I’ve never seen Grease II. Sounds like something to put on my list.
I had a secret crush on Adrian Zmed in the early 80s, and always made time for TJ Hooker. And Dance Fever. What the hell was wrong with me?

Wait! Maybe you weren’t born yet, but I remember Denny Terrio as the host of Dance Fever. Denny Terrio and “Motion” his two girl backup dancers.
And then he wrote a tell-all book about how he had to have sex with show producer Merv Griffin (may his soul rest in peace) and his stint as a call boy before getting his break as the choreographer for Saturday Night Fever.
I didn’t actually read the book. Believe it or not.
But I do have fond memories of his headbands.

Gentry: I am, sadly, older than Dance Fever, and also remember Deney Terio. I did not remember the ah, sexual accusations, but wow, that sounds riveting.
I have to say, I preferred Solid Gold to Dance Fever. Weren’t they on back to back?

I have the soundtrack to Grease 2 and I love to blast “Girl for All Seasons” and “Score Tonight” when I’m alone in my car. I wanted to be Stephnie Zinnoni (spelling?!) SO BAD!

Totally agree about Brownies from a Box. Double Fudge all the way.
I don’t think I know Grease 2 as well as Grease the first, but loved that. I will have to look for a Grease 2 DVD and watch it, I may have not seen it (horrors!). However, I DID see High School Musical. Grease is better!

You know, I prefer Brownies from a box, too. Specifically, those Betty Crocker Chewy Fudge kind. And then I add a few Ghirardelli chocolate chips to the mix, just enough to get a couple into each brownie. Yuuuummmm.
* Also, Note to Self: Stop by Origins tonight on the way home.

I grew up watching Grease but I have only seen bits and pieces from Grease 2. But, now clearly I need to watch it. I saw that it was on this weekend and I passed because I thought it wasn’t worth watching, guess I was wrong. Way wrong. I will watch ASAP!

Grease 2 is one of my favorites. I had a tape from when it was the Monday Night Movie sometime back in the mid-80s, and I knew the whole thing by heart. That is, until I discovered that the version I knew and loved for so long had been EDITED FOR TV. (I know, duh.) I heard “Reproduction” for the first time just a few months ago and it blew my world wide open. I thought I was having a spiritual experience. It was like finding an extra chapter of…Lolita!

Oh my…here is my secret confession: I often get “Reproduction” stuck in my head when I’m at the REs office. Hand to god. I thought I was the only person who remembered that movie…

I always get the Sunday night pit. And then there is the Monday morning pit while I am getting ready for work. But, by the time I get to into the office it has usually worn off and my day turns out just fine.
Lazy leisurely weekends are the best.
