I love fruit pies! Would rather have pie than cake or anything else. Strawberry-rhubarb. 3-berry. Blueberry. Cherry. Mmmmm. Has to have both good crust and good filling, they have to be perfectly balanced.

Agree on Palin. We need to be able to criticize her stands on the issues. I do agree with Violet that having 5 kids including a special needs child, would be a challenge to her focus on her duties. But the bigger issue is her lack of any viable experience...she hasn't thought about Iraq, hasn't been out of the country, no policy experience of any kind. I couldn't believe the way she - and everyone else - kept repeating that she has "executive experience" - from being governor of a state that has less population than the nearby city of Newark, NJ near where I live. Heck, I think I'd rather the mayor of Newark were running for the GOP VP than Palin. Of course, that wouldn't happen because he's a Democrat!

My favorite thing during my recent pregnancy was cherry pie - they have mini ones in the freezer section that you heat in the microwave. Ok, not nearly as good as homemade, but when the craving hits and you can have warm cherry pie in 5 minutes... heaven!

Palin... my biggest concern, aside from her inexperience, is the distraction factor. Maybe it's just me, but I would not be able to focus 100% on my job with 5 kids, one of them pregnant or with a newborn, and one of them with Downs. I just wouldn't. Not that I think she needs to stay home with them, I just think that being vice-president or possibly president is a MAJOR undertaking and you should expect it to take over most of your time and energy, and how can it with all that is already going on in her life?

And congratulations on the baby! I'm a longtime lurker, finally posting. :)

"Windex of pregnancy" HA!!

Also, I am a cake person, though I love pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Don't hate me! My husband, on the other hand, is a Cake Hater and lifetime Pie Lover, so I guess it balances out somewhat.

Yes, pie. Yummy Pie. Oh, yes, especially these, which freeze...

Renting too and similarly frustrated. Only I am 34. Ugh.

Congrats again... I am taking notes for my own (hopeful) future events!

Also, the trick to the best flakiest crust? Just follow the Betty Crocker recipe for pie crust, and right before you put it in the oven to bake, brush it lightly with a little water. Flaky. Mmmmm.

My sister and I once had a contest on Thanksgiving day to see how many pieces of pie we could eat. I had to stop after 4. I outweigh her by about 75 pounds. She stopped after EIGHT fucking pieces of pie. She couldn’t just stop at 5 to beat me. No. She had to annihilate me. She tormented me when I had to stop at 4 by saying what you said: “more pie for me.” Why was there so much pie to be had? My father is The Pie Man. He makes, shit you not, at least eight whole pies for Turkey Day. He loves pie. And passed that love onto my sister and me. For which my waistband says fuck you very much, Dad.

I'm not too big on fruit pie, but add some kind of cream or chocolate and I'm all over it.

Trying to keep some distance from the whole Palin situation, I'm hoping it will just go away.
