La La

August 9th, 2009

So! Last week … last week sucked in every way imaginable. Sam didn’t sleep, there was serious family dramzzz and … well! You get it! Week’s over and let us all thank everyone we can possibly thank, because to say it was bad is a glaring neon UNDERSTATEMENT. BAD. BAD. BAD.

And look! A fresh week is upon us, wide open with possibility. Hooray! If plans are any indication, this week is shaping up to be very lovely. Tomorrow I’m spending the afternoon at a friend’s house with her two kids — a friend, PS, I have never mentioned that I met because of this here blog. She was not a reader, but a friend of hers from college WAS (holla, Amy!) and, well, she set us up. Like a blind FRIEND date, and lo, she was totally right that we dig each other (at least I like HER very much … I can’t speak for her, obvs) and yes, it is awesome. Tuesday! Tuesday brings an afternoon visit to my neighbor’s house on the lake! And Wednesday … well, Wednesday I’m having lunch with the entire TwoBusy clan. The whole family! ALL OF THEM. I know!

IT IS A PLATE FULL OF PROMISED AWESOMENESS. Awesomeness that, you must trust me on this, I really deserve after last week, and for me to behave as though I am deserving — nay, OWED — ANYTHING means that truly, last week was UNPLEASANT.

Onward! To other pleasant things!

– I’ve lost seven pounds on Weight Watchers so far. Seven! A not-insignificant number! And you know what’s frightening? YOU CANNOT TELL. AT ALL. That’s how dire the situation is. Heavens to betsy.

– Big Brother this season is … awful. I don’t like any of them. Not ONE. I DO NOT CARE. I don’t even like to HATE any of them. Saddest. Season. Evar.

– Since last week’s sucktacularness isn’t anything I can discuss, I am sort of at a LOSS here as to how to update you on ANYTHING. So here! A video of my baby making THAT NOISE. THE PTERODACTYL NOISE. AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Sam’s newest… noise from Jonna & Adam on Vimeo.

Happy Monday!

*Ashlee Simpson. One of my never-mentioned supersecret guilty pleasures. FOR REAL. I KNOW.

So that video is obviously fabulous. Brings back memories :-) Bryan said I needed to warm him before playing that because he thought Theo was awake and had a mild heart attack. Whoops.

I truly hope this week rocks the awesome. In every single way.

  • 2. cindy w  |  August 9th, 2009 at 9:21 pm

    That noise? Is IMPRESSIVE. Wow.

  • 3. Jennifer  |  August 9th, 2009 at 9:34 pm

Wow. It was just like Jurassic Park. My 5yo son is doing his best to imitate her now. :)

  • 4. Nic  |  August 9th, 2009 at 9:40 pm

That noise is awesome. She’s totally a baby bird in the nest. She would like cookies. With chocolate.

Also, your baby is ridiculously adorable.

  • 5. Karly  |  August 9th, 2009 at 9:44 pm

Dude, she is WORKING those rolls. Love the fat little thighs!

  • 6. mar  |  August 9th, 2009 at 9:54 pm

my 5 month old scottie puppy did not know what to do with the scream. he ran across the living room to look at my laptop & then barked at about 1 minute .
hoping for a pleasant week this go around. i’ll be driving 800 miles with aforementioned puppy (one way) & bf who stresses me in the car for my baby bro’s wedding. argh!

  • 7. Jamie  |  August 9th, 2009 at 10:55 pm

    1. I love how she doesn’t even pull a face when making the noise, as if it’s so natural to her that there’s no need to furrow brow, or scrunch up her adorable cheeks. Looks like you have a pterodactyl for life.

    2. She is taller than I thought! If I sat down in that bouncy chair, I wouldn’t even have my feet hanging off the edge, but Sam is clearly a supermodel in the making.

adorable. and you know i just don’t say that shit about anybody’s baby. hope this week turns out better, J.

  • 8. Cora  |  August 9th, 2009 at 10:58 pm

My husband totally asked, “Are you ok? Is he ok?” when he heard the video playing. I had to assure him it was not OUR baby that was squealing.

Really? No one on Big Brother? I hate most of them, but I go back and forth on a few of them. Michelle is so awkward that I feel for her. And Jeff and Jordan are so cute despite being so ridiculously dumb. And Kevin can be funny. Ok, so maybe I’m a softie. But this is only my 2nd season of watching the show so maybe I am just uneducated in the potential awesomeness of Big Brother. (The only other season I watched was the one with Kayser and Howie and Janelle and James.)

And I love that Ashlee Simpson song too! :)

  • 9. Suebob  |  August 9th, 2009 at 11:10 pm

That noise would be good birth control.

  • 10. foradifferentkindofgirl (fadkog)  |  August 9th, 2009 at 11:17 pm

She is like magic with the voice throwing. If she hadn’t cocked that tiny eyebrow once, I’d think that sound wasn’t even coming from the depths of her! Also, I was distracted by the nibble-worthy thighs on that gorgeous girl! Those are worthy of some all-day raspberry blowing fests!

Finally, can I tell you just how jealous I am you get to dine with the TwoBusy clan? I’m jealous. Or intimidated. I’m one of those things. I’m jealimidated. Have a fantastic week!

  • 11. TwoBusy  |  August 10th, 2009 at 4:11 am

    Ashlee Simpson?

Yeah. Like that’s going to go unmentioned on Wednesday.

  • 12. Megan  |  August 10th, 2009 at 5:45 am

I had to come back and watch this again, I can’t stop laughing. This is totally my house right now too, it’s HILARIOUS.

(And I secretly kind of like AS too…)

  • 13. Carrie  |  August 10th, 2009 at 7:43 am

The fat rolls! OMG! The noise! DEAR LORD! You don’t need me to tell you how awesome your baby is!

Hope this week is better! :-)

  • 14. Summer  |  August 10th, 2009 at 8:26 am

Hey…I’ve been reading for a couple weeks now and I’m always loving your True Blood comments and was sort of surprised you didn’t have anything to say about last night’s shenanigan’s. Anyway I really dig your writing! So I’ve secretly befriended you here in blogland. I have a baby that’s 2 months behind yours. So much fun! Have a great week.

  • 15. Julie Momster  |  August 10th, 2009 at 8:41 am

Oh God, the Pterodactyl scream!! My daughter has flat-out perfected that noise – I swear, I hear it constantly, whether or not she’s even around me. It’s pretty much engrained in my head at this point. She usually uses it when either A) we’re not feeding her fast enough or B) we’re not paying enough attention to her. Let’s just say this: It works. Good job, girl.

  • 16. jonniker  |  August 10th, 2009 at 9:42 am

Summer: I hadn’t seen the episode when I wrote this. Because there is PLENTY TO TALK ABOUT. ERIC ERIC ERIC. LOVES SOOKIE. HE CANNOT PRETEND OTHERWISE. AAHHHHHHHH.

  • 17. Jess  |  August 10th, 2009 at 9:46 am

It is SO FRUSTRATING when you can’t even tell you’ve lost weight. I always get grumpy when people are like, “I’ve lost five pounds and two dress sizes!” I’m like, “I’ll counter that with 20 pounds and HALF a dress size.” ARGH.

  • 18. -R-  |  August 10th, 2009 at 10:22 am

She is adorable and so kicky! The loud screeching does get old, but it is super cute in short video clips. =)

As far as weight loss, yeah, I still have REALLY far to go. H took a few pictures of me and B yesterday (at my insistence), and I have so many chins that I may end up deleting all the pictures, even if it means B thinks I was never around during his first year of life.

Very cool about the blind blog date working out!

  • 19. little miss mel  |  August 10th, 2009 at 10:25 am

Was holding my 15 mo. old while watching the video. He was slapping the hell out of my chest. I don’t know if he was purely excited over the noise or a tad freaked by it all. haha And the 4 yr old wanted to watch it again and again.

Sounds like a great week. You do deserve it.

  • 20. Heather B.  |  August 10th, 2009 at 11:04 am

Even with the noise I want to munch on her.

Whatever, strangers want to eat your baby. That’s like totally normal.

  • 21. jen  |  August 10th, 2009 at 12:00 pm

That Noise. Is hilarious. Like you would think she is mad but she doesn’t seem to be. I could not stop laughing.

I always like Big Brother because it is so ridiculous. I can’t really get behind anyone either, except maybe Jeff and Jordan because I about died laughing when they were discussing spiders. But Natalie, Jesse, and Chima really drive me bonkers so I guess I watch to be annoyed. Weird huh.

  • 22. Rhi  |  August 10th, 2009 at 2:14 pm

uh…. I also kinda like Ashlee Simpson.

  • 23. Emily  |  August 10th, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Who knew that something so small (and monchable!) could produce such a noise?

  • 24. Jen  |  August 10th, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Well, my 5 month old thought that noise was so great that she would try to reproduce it herself! Not quite as screechy, but I’m sure she’ll work on it! I just love Sam’s little arm rolls!

  • 25. Kristabella  |  August 10th, 2009 at 4:24 pm

    I like Ashlee Simpson too.

Yeah, Big Brother this year kind of blows. It has gotten better in the last week or so, what with Russell defecting from the group. But yeah, I don’t really care who wins as long as it isn’t Jesse or Natalie. I do really hate Jesse.

  • 26. Maggy  |  August 10th, 2009 at 6:02 pm

My heavens! Look at her adorable pudge! When is that style going to come back for adults? I want to know. ‘Cause I could totally rock that thigh roll look. Apparently you make clotted cream and not just regular milk. Good job, mama. I, too, had to turn the sound down on the video lest the dogs go nuts. My 4 year old makes a similar sound, but only when ask him to imitate my sister’s dog. Aii-ee.
Sucktackularness (I’m totally stealing that word.) is just so, so, sucky. I feel for you.
I count you as a friend even though I only “know” you through your blog. Is that weird? Probably. But if I ever move to Vermont (Please no; I am all about Target.), I am totally calling you.

  • 27. Sheryl  |  August 11th, 2009 at 12:41 am

That is one adorable little pudgkin!

My girl used to make this awful–and realistic–choking sound at that age. On purpose. Freaked me out every.single.time.

  • 28. Pocklock  |  August 11th, 2009 at 8:49 am

I just LOVE her! Noise and all!

Here’s to a better week! Lord knows I need one too.

  • 29. page  |  August 12th, 2009 at 1:00 am

Holy noise! My husband was like, “oh, HAY-ULL no.” until he saw her. Then he relented, because the cuteness that is your daughter is unending.

  • 30. ali  |  August 12th, 2009 at 11:57 am

that is the very best video I have ever seen in my entire life.
    true story.

  • 31. Suze  |  August 12th, 2009 at 2:18 pm

That noise scared my neighbor at work, and I used earbuds to listen to it. :) Well done, Sam!

BB this season does suck somewhat, but I’m rooting for Jordan and Jeff, because they’re pretty and naive. (I know, I’m horrible.) At least they’re not constant drama like a handful of the others.

Ashlee Simpson’s first album still makes me rock out, though I’ll deny that if confronted. :)

  • 32. Beth Fish  |  August 12th, 2009 at 7:20 pm

    Slurp!

Oh my god. This is so embarrassing. It seems, well, that I just swallowed your baby whole. I didn’t mean to, I was just going to lick her a little bit, and I guess things got a little out of hand.

Sorry about that, really. But at least now you can sleep, right?

  • 33. cIII  |  August 12th, 2009 at 10:12 pm

7 is cool. I dig seven.

    I’d quit there.

Also, cool Noise. I make a similar sound when I hear Coldplay.

  • 34. Erin  |  August 12th, 2009 at 11:58 pm

My baby Ollie (5 months old) makes the exact same noise! My husband thought it was Ollie screeching when he heard Sam as I watched the video, and asked me to go get the baby. Too funny. Must be a developmental thing, since Ollie and Sam are about the same age.

  • 35. Miss E  |  August 13th, 2009 at 11:36 pm

She’s so freaking cute. I love it. And my dogs went crazy over her noises. Yes, a new torture device for them!

PS – I rarely admit, but I like Ashlee Simpson, too. Don’t tell :)

  • 36. gorillabuns  |  August 14th, 2009 at 11:53 am

not even jeff? i like him even though he’s not the smartest person in the world.

and I’m quite happy that Eric loves Sookie. If I have to hear Bill say “Sooookaaa” one more time, i’m going to shoot my t.v.

  • 37. mommymae  |  August 14th, 2009 at 3:57 pm

my babe was squealing along with her and laughing. too freakin’ cute.

  • 38. Amanda  |  August 14th, 2009 at 8:29 pm

She is SO trying to tell you something. I think she just read Infinite Jest and wants to complain about all the adverbs or something.

PS – HAMMY HAMMY THIGHS. NOM NOM NOM.
