Oh HELLO. I am here to tell you a very sad story, with an accompanying Very Sad Photo. Because our flights last week! They were the GIFTS THAT KEEP ON GIVING. What, you ask? How can that BE, you are wondering? HOW CAN THAT BE?
Well, if you follow me on Twitter, this is not a surprise. If you don’t, then I have two words for you: SWINE FLU. Yes, my daughter is currently battling the dreaded flu of the porcine variety. IT HAS COME. High fever that popped up OUT OF NOWHERE! Malaise! Stuffy nose! Inability to stay awake for more than an hour without needing to sleeeeep! Fussiness to win some kind of FUSSY COMPETITION.
Let us pause for a moment to laugh at the IMPOTENCE of my FUTILE HAND-WRINGING over getting her the vaccine. The vaccine! That I secured! BUT ONLY HALF. OH HA HA HA. She’s getting the other half next week ANYWAY! OH HA HA HA.
But first! Our Thanksgiving was wonderful! There was some of this:
However, later that same day, we had our first appearance of this, taken earlier today (Sunday. SUNDAY. IT GOES ON FOREVAH):

I don’t know about you, but this is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. For real.
And with that, I’ve got to go, because Flubaby could wake at any moment, and once she wakes up the first time, I bring her into bed with me, because HOO BOY, she is not into sleeping alone when she’s this sick, and I can’t say I blame her. I am surprisingly okay with this, given what happened the first day, when the Tamiflu made her so fucking sick that she PROJECTILE BARFED all over my bed. And me. Oh yes, we had Flubaby AND Barfingbaby all at once!
If anyone thinks I’m flying with my child ever again, they are CAH-RAZY. I shall take the train! Or never leave New England again! WHICHEVER!
Happy Monday!

Ohhhhhh poor flubaby with the tragically adorable sad flubaby face. I hope she gets better soon! And that you and Adam don’t get sick yourselves.

Virtual hugs all around, and great hope that the flu departs quickly without adding any more victims under your roof.

so sorry for you and the baby! i wondered where she could have contracted it ( i know it is easy to, but you stay home with her, etc.). my inlaws wanted us to fly to see them—this def. makes me think twice ( we have to young children 2 and 1 who are not vaccinated against swine flu).

thats awful!! Mine are due for their second round next week as well…. and both have had runny noses all weekend, but thankfully no fever…so I think its just the good old cold…. my 17 month old isnt sleeping much in her bed either this weekend, girlfriend lets us know when her nose is stuffy!

Wow. Also, holy crap. Could she look any more like you?? That there is a resemblance if I’ve ever seen one.
I maintain that it’s really difficult to think of something suckier than a sick bebe, esp. when you throw a flight into the mix. They’re so little and helpless, and…argh. Po’ Beebs, po’ Beebs’ Momma. May she kick it in a hurry.

Her face says, “Mother…I am never going to forgive you.”
Ahhh, she’ll get over it.

Oh, my. That IS one sad, sad baby. Poor thing! I really hope she is on the mend soon. Maybe her flu will only be half as long? Ah, one can hope! Despite being sick, her little cheeks sure seem kissable!

10. Cheryl | November 30th, 2009 at 8:23 am
Poor sweet baby. Those dumpling cheeks are too much to bear all feverish like that. Get better soon, little one! And take care of yourself Jonna. You do not want to get this.
11. AndreAnna | November 30th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Aww, even with the flu, I still want to eat her cheeks! I’d risk the contamination.
I hope she feels better soon.

Oh! You poor things, both of you! Poor, poor Flu Baby (I nearly wrote “Flue Baby,” but that would be a different sort of baby indeed).
Simone only got the first half of the shot as well, because they are OUT of the stupid booster.
Hope everyone feels much better very soon. That picture makes me want to cry.

First: Saaaaaddddd! This is one of my fears of traveling at Christmas – I’m convinced Rayah will catch something on the plane, and she’s too young to get any sort of protective vaccinations.
Second: Even when sick, Sam is absolutely adorable. The cheeks! The cheeks!!

Your baby looks like me when I come across Random Thing I Am Allergic Too. So I speak from experience-girlfriend be MISERABLE.
21. tracey | November 30th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
So sorry! Hope you don’t catch it, too. Nothing worse than caring for a sick baby when you are also sick. Take care of yourself so that you can take care of her.
22. Anne L. | November 30th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Aw, MAN! Those poor little flushed cheeks… get well soon, Flubaby!

Holy wow, Jonna! SWINE flu? Poor you, Sam and Adam too.
SWINE FLU. Because you didn’t already hate planes enough.
That photo of Sam, incidentally, is the cutest, saddest thing evar.

Poor, poor baby. She is so so sad.
Hope you all get back to good and soon.

That is the saddest sweet little baby face I’ve ever seen. I’m so sorry, hope it’s all over & done with VERY SOON.

Oh, that sucks!!! And it really makes me not want to fly this winter. My husband, 3 year old son, and I have all been vaccinated for both seasonal and swine flu, but my 4 month old baby is too young. We are supposed to fly to Tucson to see relatives in January, but I’m really debating whether to go now. She’s just so little! There is nothing worse than a sick baby. I hope you guys get better soon.

Can I tell you something really silly? I saw a picture of a friend with his one year old all cuddled with him, and I commented that I was SO jealous because Hank DOES.NOT.CUDDLE. Or, you know, stop moving and shouting for even a second (even while breastfeeding, sigh) and won’t co-sleep anymore which was so great but now is so not great when I just want to get some damn sleep and bring the baby to bed with me. And my friend said that his boy never cuddled until the poor tike got the swine flu and now he’s all huggy and lap-sitty. And I actually thought to myself, “Hmm. Maybe there’s a swine flu party I can go to…”
Because I’m CRAh-Hazy.
Hope Sam is on the mend. Cutest super sad sick baby photo EVAR.

Poor FluBaby! That is the saddest photo ever. She looks miserable, poor thing.
Although, I still probably look like that when I’m sick and am whining for my mommy.

Oh good grief, I am so sorry. I hope things are looking up for you all. Pocklock told me because I didn’t see your tweet at first. So sorry, you’re having to deal with this…totally sucks…and during a holiday no less…ugh! I’m convinced we are going to get the piggies this weekend when we HAVE to go to a birthday party for my niece at a Pump It Up inflatable bouncy play place. BREEDING GROUND!!! So not looking forward to it at all.

That little sickie-baby IS the saddest thing ever. OMG. But STILL, so cute. I don’t know about you but I’m willing to bet that I NEVER look that cute when I’m sick.
Hope she’s better sooooon.

I haven’t had a chance to write about my flights yet and the fact that I think half the plane wanted to call the local psych ward when we landed. Because they watched me drop a child with MITTENS on her hands into her car seat, buckle her in, and then proceed to wipe the entire ROW down with Clorox disinfecting wipes before she could touch ANYTHING. Only then did I remove the mittens.
And when the engines started and the disgusting recycled air started blowing on us? I grabbed more wipes, cleaned the vents (yes, the VENTS!) and shut them all down. We were piles of sweat when we landed.
It’s Teh Krazy. I gots it.
But ANYWAY. I’m so sorry she got it. And I’m SO SORRY she’s so miserable. I hope it gets better soon.

She looks like she’s wearing a tiny little baby toupee in that photo.
That said, I’m very glad she’s feeling better. Go Sammy! Go! Go! Go! Go!
