All Fired Up

February 23rd, 2010

I’m pretty sure that you, Internets, will never find this as amusing as I do, because you aren’t her mother. And I know! Indulgent videos of child, I KNOW. But goddamn, if this doesn’t make me laugh — hard — every time I watch it. I’ll be back with the regular drivel tomorrow.

I wonder, um, who she’s modeling after here? Talk about realizing you need to, uhh, watch yourself.

The scene, pre-bedtime this evening:

Is she holding up her hand to say “Just one minute, baby, mama needs to finish an email.” Because, uhm, when my kid learns to do that I will totally have no idea where he picked it up.

  • 2. Melissa  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 7:59 pm

Oh my. She sure was thinking something! She’s adorable, whatever she was so worked up about.

  • 3. mar  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 8:07 pm

my bf walked over here to see what was going on because he thought he heard her saying “just a minute!” hmmm, i guess i’ll start to worry when the puppy starts to do that.

  • 4. Alyce  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 8:25 pm

Babies in flame wars. About sleep training? Breastfeeding? She’s adorbs.

  • 5. Susanna  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 9:24 pm

That’s pretty damn funny, actually– and I don’t even have kids. Mirror mirror… Makes you realize how much time we spend on these machines.

  • 6. Anne  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 9:36 pm

    Adorableness!

Like the above commenters, I totally heard “just a minute” in there.

  • 7. Meredith  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 9:43 pm

Longtime reader, first-time commenter…This was the funniest thing I have seen in AGES. I have an 8 month old so I can relate. Although Miss Sam seems very intent on her work at hand. I, too, have laughed and laughed.

Keep up the good work…you are one of my top 5 daily websites. Thanks for making my day. :-)

  • 8. Christine  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Oh geez Jonna is she ever adorable. Ack, just a minute! I die.

  • 9. diane  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 10:24 pm

That is fantastic! totally sounds like “just a minute” in there. I will be re-watching, so adorable.

  • 10. leigh  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 10:58 pm

I am DYING over here! Is it fat acceptance? Breastfeeding? Being an SAHM vs. a working mom? What, Sam? What?!

HA HA HA! SO CUTE! I want to bite her head! (you know what I mean, right? Not in a creepy way…)

  • 11. cindy w  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 11:09 pm

Oh mah GAH those curls and those cheeks! She is delicious.

And yeah, the mimicking starts early. It just gets worse as they get more verbal. My 3 year-old has started putting her hand up and saying, “Just give me a minute here, Mommy.” Um… where’d she learn THAT, I wonder?

  • 12. Erin (Snarke)  |  February 23rd, 2010 at 11:51 pm

That is the funniest and most adorable thing I have seen in a while! So awesome! …though it does make me VERY afraid at the behaviors our kids will start to mimic early on, you know, after we have them.

My friend’s daughter once, after listening to her mother tell me a very long story about one of her friends that ended in “and I didn’t know until five minutes ago!”, said in a very ‘duh dumbass!’ voice “well why didn’t she just put it on her BLOG?” the daughter? Was four at the time.

  • 13. Kate  |  February 24th, 2010 at 12:29 am

Oh Beebs! You are so stinkin’ cute.

And clearly your mother’s daughter. LOL :)

  • 14. Marie Green  |  February 24th, 2010 at 1:07 am

I’m pretty sure it had to do with Michael Jackson? And black people/dogs? Am I translating correctly?

  • 15. Sarah  |  February 24th, 2010 at 4:52 am

Oh MAN!! I love the hand! and her “babbling” is amazing! It’s the whole package really, the footie jammies, the crazy awesome curls, the typing, the hand, the stern talking-to she’s giving you… It’s all just so great.

  • 16. The New Girl  |  February 24th, 2010 at 5:43 am

Oh, no. I find that pretty amusing as well.

    Oh. MY. GOODNESS.

She really DOES sound ticked, though, right? All, ‘Talk to the HAND, Mama. I AIN’T READY for bed.’

  • 17. Cheryl  |  February 24th, 2010 at 6:12 am

She’s got so much personality. Just had to go back and watch the Giggle Fest video after this!

  • 18. Jess  |  February 24th, 2010 at 7:04 am

For my breakfast I shall have her cheeks. KThanks.

  • 19. Tara  |  February 24th, 2010 at 8:22 am

Oh my, the hand in the air is adorable. She is too cute!

So, this is the first time I’ve really ever commented, and I just wanted to tell you that I was pregnant when you had Sam, and your stories made me so excited to meet my own little bug. And honestly, maybe a teeny bit nervous…I’m kind of big on the whole sleep thing :) But you seemed to handle everything so well, I figured I could manage, too. So thank you for that! Definitely one of my favorite sites!

  • 20. Marianne  |  February 24th, 2010 at 8:53 am

Oh my god, I cannot stop watching. So cute with her little hand in the air! Ah!

  • 21. Heather  |  February 24th, 2010 at 10:52 am

My toddler is demanding to watch this over and over again. Hysterical. She is very SERIOUS about what she has to say.

  • 22. Manda  |  February 24th, 2010 at 3:05 pm

Haa!! That is so so cute! My daughter does a lot of “HALLO?” and pretending to talk on the phone lately. My husband calls her my mini-me! Oops!

  • 23. Melospiza  |  February 24th, 2010 at 3:45 pm

My favorite part is how she puts up the “Not now!” hand, and then gets distracted by its fascinating wonderfulness, and then snaps back to the matter at hand, which is finishing her danged work before some busybody parent drags her away.

  • 24. Coco  |  February 24th, 2010 at 3:50 pm

It’s clearly ‘just a SECOND!’ people, not ‘just a minute’.

  • 25. Kerri Anne  |  February 24th, 2010 at 5:40 pm

And she’s already mastered the art of one-handed typing!

  • 26. TwoBusy  |  February 24th, 2010 at 8:50 pm

Maybe I’m losing my mind, but to me it sounded like “I’m just using the computer!” clear as day.

And really, she’s right. Give the girl a little breathing room.

  • 27. SBMaya  |  February 25th, 2010 at 3:20 pm

She is SOOOo up in arms that you were even CONSIDERING taking her off that very important email…Its amazing! They are such mimics, its like a 2 way mirror. Cannot even begin to comment on the edible cheeks or the rosy lips without going into Ovary-overdrive…ahhh…too late…Must…get..one…of..those…

  • 28. anna banana  |  February 25th, 2010 at 9:03 pm

Oh My God. That is a mini replica of the gal I used to work with at SPWX! Hand in air. Smile on face/slightly serious, still concentrating on the email. ‘Cept this little gal looks so much like her daddy that it is disarming! What a cutie pie. I have watched this video no less than ten times with my girls on my lap. . . they simply cannot get enough…KEEP POSTING, J!
    xo,

Mostly what I gathered from rearing two kids is that anything is baby food if it’s unseasoned and mushed up enough. Aim for fruits, veges, whole grains and lean meats.
